गजाननं भूतगणाधिसेवितं कपित्थजम्बूफलचारुभक्षणम् ।
gajānanṃ bhūta-gaṇā-dhisevitaṃ kapittha-jambū-phala-cāru-bhakṣaṇam |
The elephant-faced one, attended by the hosts of spirits and all the rest, who so gladly feasts on wood-apple and jamun fruit;
उमासुतं शोकविनाशकारकं नमामि विघ्नेश्वरपादपङ्कजम् ॥
umā-sutaṃ śoka-vināśa-kārakam namāmi vighneśvara-pāda-paṅkajam ||
Umā’s son, who brings grief to an end — I bow to the lotus feet of Vighneśvara, the Lord who rules over obstacles.

Great-trunked bearer of the trunk, wide-eyed one, your earrings flashing, your earrings flashing;

kumkum, saffron and sandal paste — I bow to your vermilion-anointed face.

armlets upon your arms, armlets upon your arms, bracelets at your wrists — a sight to behold.

रत्न जड़ित सिंहासन शोभित गणपति आनन्दा हरि गणपति आनन्दा ।

On a gem-studded throne Gaṇapati sits resplendent, full of bliss, Gaṇapati full of bliss;
गल मोतियन की माला गुरु गल वैजयन्ती माला सुरनर मुनि वन्दा ।
gala motiyana kī mālā guru gala vaijayantī mālā suranara muni vandā |
at your throat a string of pearls, at your throat the Vaijayantī garland; gods, men and sages bow to you.

bhaṇata śivānanda svāmī guru japata hari hara svāmī meṭata bhava-phandā |
so sings Śivānanda Svāmī: whoever chants this, O Lord Hari-Hara, has the snare of worldly existence undone.

Prātaḥ Kālika Prārthanāप्रातः कालिक प्रार्थना
1१
कर्पूरगौरं करुणावतारं संसारसारं भुजगेन्द्रहारम् ।
karpūragauraṃ karuṇāvatāraṃ saṃsārasāraṃ bhujagendrahāram|
Fair as camphor, compassion itself come down in bodily form, the essence at the heart of this world, wearing the king of serpents as his garland;
सदा वसन्तं हृदयारविन्दे भवं भवानी सहितं नमामि ॥
sadā vasantaṃ hṛdayāravinde bhavaṃ bhavānī sahitaṃ namāmi ||
forever dwelling in the lotus of the heart — to Bhava, together with Bhavānī, I bow.
2२
मंदारमालायै कलिकलाकयै कपालमालाया शिवशङ्कराय ।
maṃdāramālāyai kalikalākayai kapālamālāyā śivaśaṅkarāya |
To her whose tresses are dressed with garlands of mandāra blossoms, and to Śiva Śaṅkara wearing his garland of skulls;
दिव्याम्बरायै च दिगम्बराय नमः शिवायै च नमः शिवाय ॥
divyāmbarāyai ca digambarāya namaḥ śivāyai ca namaḥ śivāya ||
to her robed in heavenly cloth, and to him clothed only in the open sky — homage to Śivā, and homage to Śiva.

श्री अखण्डानन्दबोधाय शोकसन्तापहारिणे ।
śrī akhaṇḍānandabodhāya śokasantāpahāriṇe|
To the one who awakens unbroken bliss, who takes away grief and burning anguish;
सच्चिदानन्दस्वरूपाय शिवशिवाय नमो नमः ॥
saccidānandasvarūpāya śivaśivāya namo namaḥ ||
whose very nature is being, awareness and bliss — to Śiva, the all-auspicious, homage again and again.

Śiva-Pañcākṣara-Stotramशिव-पञ्चाक्षर-स्तोत्रम्
The akhāṛā sings its own recension of Ādi Śaṅkara’s Pañcākṣara Stotram, the same one found in the published Śrī Pañca Daśanām Jūnā Akhāṛā stuti. Verses 2–5 differ in wording from the widely printed text, though each still unfolds one syllable of na-maḥ-śi-vā-ya.

नागेन्द्रहाराय त्रिलोचनाय भस्माङ्गरागाय महेश्वराय ।
nāgendrahārāya triloçanāya bhasmāṅgarāgāya maheśvarāya |
To him who wears the king of serpents as his garland, who has three eyes, whose limbs are painted with sacred ash, the Great Lord;
दिव्याय देवाय दिगम्बराय तस्मै नकाराय नमः शिवाय ॥
divyāya devāya digambarāya tasmai nakārāya namaḥ śivāya ||
the divine one, the radiant God, clothed only in the sky — to that Śiva, embodied in the syllable ‘na’, I bow.

मातङ्ग-चर्माम्बर-भूषणाय समस्त-गीर्वाण-गणार्चिताय ।
mātaṅga-carmāmbara-bhūṣaṇāya samasta-gīrvāṇa-gaṇārcitāya |
To him whose garment and adornment is the elephant’s hide, who is worshipped by the whole host of the gods;
त्रैलोक्यनाथाय त्रिपुरान्तकाय तस्मै मकाराय नमः शिवाय ॥
trailokyanāthāya tripurāntakāya tasmai makārāya namaḥ śivāya ||
lord of the three worlds, who brought the three demon cities to their end — to that Śiva, embodied in the syllable ‘ma’, I bow.

शिवामुखाम्भोजविकाशनाय दक्षस्य यज्ञास्य-विध्वंसनाय ।
śivamukhām-bhojavikāśanāya dakṣasya yajñāsya-vidhvamsanāya |
To him who makes the lotus face of Śivā, his consort Pārvatī, open in bloom, who laid waste the sacrifice of Dakṣa;
चन्द्रार्क-वैश्वानर-लोचनाय तस्मै शिकाराय नमः शिवाय ॥
candrārka-vaiśvānara-locanāya tasmai śikārāya namaḥ śivāya ||
whose three eyes are the moon, the sun and fire — to that Śiva, embodied in the syllable ‘śi’, I bow.
4४
वसिष्ठकुम्भोद्भव-गौतमाय मुनीन्द्रवन्द्याय गिरीश्वराय ।
vasiṣṭhakumbhodbhava-gautamāya munindravandyāya girīśvarāya |
To him honoured by Vasiṣṭha, by pot-born Agastya and by Gautama, revered by the foremost sages, Lord of the mountain;
श्री नीलकण्ठाय वृषध्वजाय तस्मै वकाराय नमः शिवाय ॥
śrī nīlakaṇṭhāya vṛṣadhvajāya tasmai vakārāya namaḥ śivāya ||
the glorious blue-throated one whose banner bears the bull — to that Śiva, embodied in the syllable ‘vā’, I bow.

यज्ञस्वरूपाय जटाधराय पिनाकहस्ताय सनातनाय ।
yajñasvarūpāya jaṭādharāya pinākahastāya sanātanāya |
To him whose very form is the sacrifice, who wears matted locks, who holds the bow Pināka in his hand, the primeval one;
नित्याय शुद्धाय निरञ्जनाय तस्मै यकाराय नमः शिवाय ॥
nityāya śuddhāya nirañjanāya tasmai yakārāya namaḥ śivāya ||
the eternal, the pure, the one no stain can touch — to that Śiva, embodied in the syllable ‘ya’, I bow.

शिव पञ्चाक्षरमिदं स्तोत्रं यः पठेच्छिवसन्निधौ ।
śiva pañcākṣaramidaṃ stotram yaḥ paṭhecchivasannidhau |
Whoever recites this five-syllable hymn of Śiva in the presence of Śiva
शिवलोकमवाप्नोति शिवेन सह मोदते ॥
śivalokamavāpnoti śivena saha modate ||
reaches the realm of Śiva and rejoices there together with him.
4४
Śrī Śiva Vandanaश्री शिव वन्दन
A bhajan of the akhāṛā, sung after the Pañcākṣara Stotram. The akhāṛā’s published stuti reads kalaye (“I hold in my heart”) for “kala hare”, bhāla-locana (“the eye on his brow”) for “para locana”, and bhole for “bole”; the English follows those senses.

शिव हर शङ्करगौरीशं, वन्दे गङ्गाधरमीशम् ।
śiva hara śaṅkaragaurīśaṃ, vande gaṅgādharamīśam |
Śiva, Hara, Śaṅkara, Lord of Gaurī — I bow to the Lord who bears the Gaṅgā;
शिवरुद्रं पशुपतिमीशानं कल हरे काशीपुर नाथम् ॥
śivarudraṃ paśupatimīśānaṃ kala hare kāśīpura nātham ||
Śiva-Rudra, Lord of all creatures, the Ruler — O Hara, Lord of the city of Kāśī, I hold you in my heart.

bhaja para locanaparamānandā śrī nīlakaṇṭhā tvaṃ śaraṇam
Worship the Lord of the supreme eye, bliss beyond all bliss; glorious blue-throated one, you are my refuge.
शिव असुर निकन्दन भव-दुःखभञ्जन सेवक के प्रतिपाला ॥
śiva asura nikandana bhava-duḥkhabhañjana sevaka ke pratipālā ||
Śiva, uprooter of demons, breaker of the world’s sorrow, protector of those who serve you.

आवागमन निवारो बोले शङ्कर भज शिव वारंवार ।
āvāgamana nivāro bole śaṅkara bhaja śiva vāramvāra |
End my coming and going through birth after birth, O guileless Śaṅkara; sing of Śiva again and again.
ॐ शिवहर शम्भु सदाशिव साम्ब हरिहर सदा सदाशिव साम्ब ॥
om śivahara śambhu sadāśiva sāmb harihara sadā sadāśiva sāmb ||
Om — Śiva, Hara, Śambhu, the ever-auspicious one with the Mother; Hari and Hara, forever Sadāśiva with the Mother.

वन्दे देवमुमापतिं सुरगुरुम् वन्दे जगत्कारणम् ।
vande devamumāpatiṃ suragurum vande jagatkāraṇam |
I bow to the God who is Umā’s husband and teacher of the gods; I bow to him from whom the world arises;
वन्दे पन्नगभूषणं मृगधरम् वन्दे पशूनां पतिम् ॥
vande pannagabhūṣaṇaṃ mṛgadharam vande paśūnāṃ patim ||
I bow to him whose ornaments are serpents and who holds a deer; I bow to the master of all living beings.
वन्दे सूर्याशशाङ्क वह्निनयनम् वन्दे मुकुन्द प्रियम् ।
vande sūryāśaśāṅka vahninayanam vande mukunda priyam |
I bow to him whose three eyes are the sun, the moon and fire; I bow to him whom Mukunda, Viṣṇu, holds dear;
वन्दे भक्त जनाश्रयम् चवरदम् वन्दे शिवं शंकरम् ॥
vande bhakta janāśrayam cavaradam vande śivaṃ śaṃkaram ||
I bow to the shelter of his devotees, who grants their wishes; I bow to Śiva, Śaṅkara, the maker of all that is good.

हे जिह्वे भज विश्वनाथं बद्री-केदार-भस्मेश्वरम् ।
he jihve bhaja viśvanāthaṃ badrī-kedāra-bhasmeśvaram |
O tongue, sing the praise of Viśvanātha, of Badrī and Kedāra, and of Bhasmeśvara, Lord of the sacred ash;
भीमाशङ्करं बैजनाथ ममले-नागेश्वर-रामेश्वरम् ॥
bhīmāśaṅkaraṃ baijanatha mamale-nāgeśvara-rāmeśvaram ||
of Bhīmāśaṅkara, Baijanātha, Mamaleśvara, Nāgeśvara and Rāmeśvara;
ओंकारे ममलेश्वरं स्मरहरिहरं महंकालं मल्लिकाऽर्जुनम् ।
oṃkāre mamaleśvaraṃ smarahariharaṃ mahaṃkālaṃ mallikā'rjunam |
remember Mamaleśvara at Oṃkāra, remember Hari-Hara, Mahākāla and Mallikārjuna;
ध्यायेत् त्र्यम्बक-सोमनाथहृदये एकदाशं ॐ नमः ॥
dhyāyet tryambaka-somanāthahṛdaye ekadāśaṃ oṃ namaḥ ||
and in the heart meditate on Tryambaka and Somanātha — these eleven. Om, salutations.
Eleven of the twelve Jyotirliṅgas are named; only Ghṛṣṇeśvara is absent.

देवं चन्द्रकलाधरं फणिधरं ब्रह्मा कपालाधरं ।
devaṃ candrakalādharaṃ phaṇidharaṃ brahmā kapālādharaṃ |
The God who wears the crescent moon, who wears hooded serpents, who carries the skull of Brahmā;
गौरीवामधरं त्रिलोचनधरं रुद्राक्षमालागलम् ॥
gaurīvāmadharaṃ trilocanadharaṃ rudrākṣamālāgalam ||
who keeps Gaurī at his left side, who bears three eyes, a garland of rudrākṣa at his throat;
गङ्गारङ्गतरङ्गपिङ्गलजटाजूटं श्री गङ्गाधरम् ।
gaṅgā-raṅga-taraṅga-piṅga-la-jaṭā jūṭaṃ śrī gaṅgādharam |
whose tawny knot of matted hair glistens with the dancing waves of Gaṅgā — glorious Gaṅgādhara, bearer of the Ganges;
नीलाग्रे भज विश्वनाथसिद्धसहितं सोमेशं रक्षाकरम् ॥
nīlā-gre bhaja viśvanāthasiddhasahitaṃ someśeśā rakṣākaram ||
on the blue summit worship him: Viśvanātha, Lord of the Moon, surrounded by siddhas, the giver of protection.

Gaṅgā, Sindhu, Sarasvatī and Yamunā, Godāvarī, Narmadā;
कावेरी सरयू महेन्द्र तनया चर्मण्वती वेदिका ॥
kāverī sarayū mahendra tanayā carmaṇvatī vedikā ||
Kāverī, Sarayū, Mahendra-tanayā, Carmaṇvatī, Vedikā;
क्षिप्रा विप्रवती महासुरनदी ख्याता च या गण्डकी
kṣiprā vipravatī mahāsuranadī khyātā ca yā gaṇḍakī
Kṣiprā, Vipravatī, the great river of the gods, and the far-famed Gaṇḍakī —
पूर्णाः पूर्ण-जलैः समुद्रसहिताः कुर्वन्तु नो मङ्गलम् ॥
pūrṇāḥ pūrṇa-jalaiḥ samudrasahitāḥ kurvantu no maṅgalam ||
may all of them, brimming with their full waters, and the ocean with them, bring us blessing.
Verse 7 of the Maṅgalāṣṭakam attributed to Kālidāsa. The river usually named third in the last couplet is the Vetravatī (the Betwa).

Serene in form, resting on the mountain peak, garlanded with snakes — the Great Lord;
विश्वाधारं गगनवासनं स्वच्छवरणं शुभाङ्गम् ॥
viśvādhāraṃ gaganavāsanaṃ svacchavaraṇaṃ śubhāṅgam ||
the foundation of the universe, clothed only in the sky, clear and bright in colour, auspicious in every limb;
श्री-गौरी-कान्तम् विषमनयनम् योगि-भिर्ध्यानगम्यम् ।
śrī-gaurī-kāntam viṣamanayanam yogi-bhirdhyānagamyam |
the beloved of glorious Gaurī, the three-eyed one, whom yogis reach through meditation —
वन्दे शम्भुम् भवभयहरं सर्वलोकैकनाथम् ॥
vande śambhum bhavabhayaharaṃ sarvalokaikanātham ||
I bow to Śambhu, who dispels the dread of worldly existence, the one Lord of all the worlds.

Serene in form, resting upon the serpent, a lotus springing from his navel, sovereign of the gods;
विश्वा-धारं गगनसदृशं मेघवर्णं शुभाङ्गम् ॥
viśvā-dhāraṃ gaganasadṛśaṃ meghavarṇaṃ śubhāṅgam ||
the foundation of the universe, boundless as the sky, dark as a rain cloud, auspicious in every limb;
श्री-लक्ष्मी-कान्तं कमलनयनं योगि-भिर्ध्यानगम्यम् ।
śrī-lakṣmī-kāntaṃ kamalanayanaṃ yogi-bhirdhyānagamyam |
the beloved of glorious Lakṣmī, lotus-eyed, whom yogis reach through meditation —
वन्दे विष्णुं भवभयहरं सर्वलोकैकनाथम् ॥
vande viṣṇuṃ bhavabhayaharaṃ sarvalokaikanātham ||
I bow to Viṣṇu, who dispels the dread of worldly existence, the one Lord of all the worlds.

असित गिरिसमम् स्यात् कज्जलम् सिन्धुपात्रे सुरतरुवरशाखा लेखनी पत्रमुर्वी ।

If lampblack heaped as high as the Black Mountain were the ink and the ocean its inkpot, a branch of the gods’ choicest tree the pen, and the whole earth the page;
लिखति यदि गृहीत्वा शारदा सर्वकालम् तदपि तव गुणानामीश पारं न याति ॥
likhati yadi gṛhītvā śāradā sarvakālam tadapi tava guṇānā-mīśa pāraṃ na yāti ||
and if Śāradā, goddess of learning, took these up and wrote without ceasing for all time — even then, O Lord, she would never reach the end of your virtues.

Śivāparādha Kṣamāpaṇa Stotram (ślokaḥ)शिवापराध क्षमापण स्तोत्रम् (श्लोक)

करचरणकृतं वा क्कायजं कर्मजं वा श्रवननयनजं वा मानसं वापराधम् ।
karacaraṇakṛtaṃ vā kkāyajaṃ karmajaṃ vā śravananayanajaṃ vā mānasaṃ vāparādham |
Whatever wrong I have done with hands or feet, whatever has sprung from speech, body or deed, whatever came in through the ears or the eyes, or arose in the mind;
विहितमविहितं वा सर्वमेतत्क्षमस्व जय जय करुणाब्धे श्री-महादेव शम्भो ॥
vihitama-vihitaṃ vā sarvametakṣamasva jaya jaya karuṇābdhe śrī-mahādeva śambho ||
whether against what is enjoined or what is not — forgive all of it. Glory, glory to you, ocean of compassion, glorious Mahādeva, Śambhu!

गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णुः गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः ।
gururbrahmā gururviṣṇuḥ gururdevo maheśvaraḥ |
The Guru is Brahmā, the Guru is Viṣṇu, the Guru is the Lord Maheśvara;
गुरुः साक्षात् परब्रह्म तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ॥
gurursākṣāt parabrahma tasmai śrīgurave namaḥ ||
the Guru is the supreme Brahman standing before our eyes — to that blessed Guru I bow.

ध्यानमूलं गुरोर्मूर्तिः पूजामूलं गुरोः पदम् ।
dhyānamūlaṃ gurormūrtiḥ pūjāmūlaṃ guroḥ padam |
At the root of meditation is the Guru’s form; at the root of worship, the Guru’s feet;
मन्त्रमूलं गुरोर्वाक्यम् मोक्षमूलं गुरोः कृपा ॥
mantramūlaṃ gurorvākyam mokṣamūlaṃ guroḥ kṛpā ||
at the root of every mantra, the Guru’s word; at the root of liberation, the Guru’s grace.

श्री-अखण्डमण्डलाकारं व्याप्तं येन चराचरम् ।
śrī-akhaṇḍamaṇḍalākāraṃ vyāptaṃ yena carācaram |
That one unbroken whole by which all that moves and all that stands still is pervaded —
तत्पदं दर्शितं येन तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ॥
tatpadaṃ darśitaṃ yena tasmai śrīgurave namaḥ ||
to the blessed Guru who has revealed that reality, I bow.

आकाशात् पतितं तोयं यथा गच्छति सागरम् ।
ākāśāt patitaṃ toyaṃ yathā gacchati sāgaram |
As rain that falls from the sky finds its way at last to the ocean,
सर्वदेव-नमस्कारः केशवं प्रतिगच्छति ॥
sarvadeva-namaskāraḥ keśavaṃ pratigacchati ||
so homage offered to any of the gods finds its way to Keśava.

केशवं क्लेशनाशाय दुःखनाशाय माधवम् ।
keśavaṃ kleśanāśāya duḥkhanāśāya mādhavam |
Call on Keśava to end affliction, on Mādhava to end sorrow;
श्री-हरिः पापनाशाय गोविन्दः मोक्षदायकः ॥
śrī-hariḥ pāpanāśāya govindaḥ mokṣadāyakaḥ ||
Śrī Hari destroys sin, and Govinda is the giver of liberation.
14१४
मन्त्रः सत्यं पूजा सत्यं सत्यम् देव निरञ्जनम् ।
mantraḥ satyaṃ pūjā satyaṃ satyam deva nirañjanam |
The mantra is Truth, worship is Truth, Truth is the stainless Lord;
गुरोर्वाक्यं सदा सत्यम् सत्यमेकं परम् पदम् ॥
gurorvākyaṃ sadā satyam satyamekaṃ param padam ||
the Guru’s word is Truth for ever; Truth alone is the highest goal.
15१५
अन्यथा शरणं नास्ति त्वमेव शरणं मम ।
anyathā śaraṇaṃ nāsti tvameva śaraṇaṃ mama |
I have no shelter anywhere else; you alone are my shelter;
तस्मात् कारुण्यभावेन रक्ष रक्ष महेश्वर ॥
tasmāt kāruṇyabhāvena rakṣa rakṣa maheśvara ||
so, moved by compassion, protect me, protect me, O Maheśvara.
16१६
प्रातः काले शिवं दृष्ट्वा निशापापं विनश्यति ।
prātaḥ kāle śivaṃ dṛṣṭvā niśāpāpaṃ vinaśyati |
Seeing Śiva at dawn, the sins of the night are wiped away;
आजन्मकृतं मध्याह्ने सायाह्ने सप्तजन्मनि ॥
ājanmakṛtaṃ madhyāhne sāyāhne saptajanmani ||
at midday, the sins of a whole lifetime; at evening, the sins of seven births.
17१७
मेरुकांचन्दनानां गवां कोटिशतैरपि ।
merukāṃcandanānāṃ gavāṃ koṭiśatairapi |
The merit of giving gold heaped as high as Meru, or even of a hundred crore cows,
पञ्चकोटितुरङ्गानां तत्फलं शिवदर्शनात् ॥
pañcakoṭituraṅgānāṃ tatphalaṃ śivadarśanāt ||
or of five crore horses — all that fruit is won by the sight of Śiva.

त्वमेव माता च पिता त्वमेव त्वमेव बन्धु च सखा त्वमेव ।
tvameva mātā ca pitā tvameva tvameva bandhu ca sakhā tvameva |
You alone are my mother, you alone my father; you alone my kinsman, you alone my friend;
त्वमेव विद्या द्रविणं त्वमेव त्वमेव सर्वं मम देव देव ॥
tvameva vidyā draviṇaṃ tvameva tvameva sarvaṃ mama deva deva ||
you alone are my learning, you alone my wealth; you alone are my everything, O God of gods.

In the sky, the Tāraka liṅga; in the netherworld, Baṭukeśvara;
मृत्युलोके महाकालं सर्वलिङ्गं नमोस्तु ते ॥
mṛtyuloke mahākālaṃ sarvaliṅgaṃ namastu te ||
in the world of mortals, Mahākāla — homage to you, present in every liṅga.
The Ujjain Mahākāleśvara verse. The commonly printed text names Hāṭakeśvara in the netherworld and ends liṅga-trayaṃ, ‘the three liṅgas’.

श्री-जटाधरं पाण्डुरङ्गं शूलहस्तं कृपानिधिम् ।
śrī-jaṭādharaṃ pāṇḍuraṅgaṃ śūlahastaṃ kṛpānidhim |
With matted locks, pale-limbed, a trident in his hand, a storehouse of grace;
सर्वरोगहरं देवं दत्तात्रेयम् अहं भजे ॥
sarvarogaharaṃ devaṃ dattātreyam ahaṃ bhaje ||
the Lord who takes away every disease — Dattātreya, whom I adore.
Opening verse of the Dattātreya Stotram of the Nārada Purāṇa. Dattātreya is the tutelary deity of the Jūnā Akhāṛā.

Flowers of many fragrances, each come to bloom in its own season —
मन्त्र पुष्पाञ्जलिर्मया दत्तो गृहाण परमेश्व ॥
mantra puṣpāñjalirmayā datto gṛhāṇa parameśva ||
this handful of flowers, offered with mantra, I have given; accept it, O Supreme Lord.
